This February, party promoters Triangle, who have previously presented the likes of xxxy, braiden, damu, oneman, ossie, hackman, 2bears and others, return to CAMP’s basement bringing with them without doubt their most inspired line-up to date.
Heading up proceedings is the Number’s label new boy Randomer. With no genre limitations, Randomer rides the lines with finesse and ease, riling dancefloors into a frenzy along the way.Be sure to keep and ear open for his upcoming release “Scrufflock/ Get Yourself” on Hemlock.
Similarly to Randomer, Throwing Snow defies genres and does what ever the fuck he wants. Bringing together elements of dubstep, trip hop and house Whatever genre he draws on, his music is spot on every single time so he should have no problem whatsoever in lifting the crown into a sweaty and manic mess (in a good way).
And if that wasn’t enough of a reason to get yourself down the steps of CAMP and dance straight for 6 hours, then the addition of Becoming Real & Deft should secure your decision. Becoming Real has just recently been tipped by HMV as one of their One’s to Watch, and if his multilayered, luscious, instant classic “Paramnesia” upcoming cut on GETME. As well as his productions, he DJ sets are something of legend.
Deft opens up the night, with his intricate, spaced out cerebral take on Grime he’ll ensure the party gets off to deep and dirty start.
This Triangle is set to be their best one yet, with an undoubtedly ambitious and creative set of producers/DJ playing for your pleasure in a moody atmospheric basement setting, it’s one not to miss.
Plain and Simple have a pair of tickets to give away for this event. To enter drop an email over to jo@plainandsimple.tv and answer this question:
Whats the name of Becoming Real’s forthcoming release?

Back in December we brought you the news that Cable were launching a new sister venue ‘Relay’. Created out of the space that was previously Cable’s mysterious 3rd room, Relay will be standalone venue in its own right, with a program of events that will run parallel to the parties at Cable next door.
Next week on Feb 4th the venue opens with its launch night, and soon to be flagship weekly Saturday night party [Moh-Teef]
[Moh-Teef] will be bringing artists such as Kozo & Cezar Anthony Collins and Cadenza’s Alex Picone to the venue and on the launch night you can expect Perlon’s Margaret Dygas and Toi Toi’s Voigtmann. The team behind the venture felt that there was a gap in London’s nightlife for a quality, underground weekly house night – and wanted to provide a party where house heads can drop by, regardless of who’s playing, and know they’ll be friendly faces and a great soundtrack. The ethos behind [moh-teef] is to provide an intimate, friendly vibe where residents are joined by one or two guests each week – with a mix of more established names alongside hot new talent.
We have x2 pairs of tickets up for grabs to this fab event – if you want to get down the front and get your weekend on to the sounds of Margaret Dygas, PLUS have a good old nosey at the venue before anyone else then answer this question:
Margaret Dygas has released music on which German label? Is it:

(b) Cocoon

Christmas; the time of year where we can step back from the chaos of our day-to-day lives and take stock of the last twelve months, and the last twelve months has been nothing short of stratospheric for ‘Rising’ star Nelski. From successfully designing and launching an awe inspiring live show to a rapturous audience at this year’s sold-out Wickerman Festival, to seeing the release of his debut EP ‘Whatever Makes You Happy’ on Chris Lake’s Rising Music receive major radio airplay and critical acclaim from some of the scenes most trusted and revered tastemakers.
To take things a step further Nelski was chosen by the man himself, Chris Lake to stand in for him on the Chris Lake Podcast during his time on tour in the United States. Nelski took to the mic like a proverbial duck to water and with youth, energy, and charisma showcased a new side to the man behind the glasses, leaving the experience refreshed and ready to take on new challenges ahead.
Fast forward to December and the season of giving is upon us, with Christmas just 2 weeks away, Nelski has decided it’s time to give something back to all his fans and followers around the world. Nelski in association with Rising Music will be asking people ‘What makes you happy?’
Could it be waking up on Christmas morning to a tree littered with presents, could it be your loved ones, your favourite pet or maybe it’s the huge snowman you have proudly constructed? It doesn’t matter how silly, cheesy, slushy or random the answer is, we just simply want to know!
All you need to do to enter is head over to Nelski’s Facebook page, become a fan if you aren’t already, and from here submit their photo entry. All entrants are asked to send a picture, alongside a caption that describes whatever makes them happy.
One lucky winner chosen on Christmas day will receive:
A full day at the impressive Rising Music Studio’s in London to work alongside Nelski on a music project of your choice.
25 Runners up will receive a special limited edition signed copy of Nelski’s EP ‘Whatever Makes You Happy’.
The competition is open to budding music producers, vocalists, instrumentalists, or anyone musical! The competition is open to anyone from across the world – but, as always, terms and conditions apply, so here’s the science:
Applicant’s are responsible for arrnaging and funding their own travel to and from Rising Studio’, London.
Nelski and Rising Music reserve the right to use all images submitted for promotional use.
Entrants will have under 2 weeks in which to submit their potentially winning photo. Entry will close at 20:00 GMT on Christmas Eve and the winner will be notified by email, and announced via Facebook at 11:00 GMT Christmas Day morning to complete your Christmas wishes.
Let us know whatever makes you happy this Christmas, and you could be in with a chance to win a once in a lifetime prize.

The party was scheduled to take place at Pulse in SE1 but has recently been shifted to Electric Brixton (formerly The Fridge). Christmas has come early as we now have some free tickets to give away!

Check our Reboot interview: http://www.plainandsimple.tv/2011/10/21/reboot-interview/

After a great year at Brixton Clubhouse, hosting the likes of Dimitri From Paris, Anja Schneider, Radio Slave, Felix and Al Hot Chip, Aeroplane and Ralph Lawson, Get Diverted & Slide join forces once again on New Years’ Eve with a fantastic line-up, spearheaded by disco and edit legend GREG WILSON. Joining us for the 3rd time at the venue, this will be Greg’s first appearance in the club space rather that on the terrace, and he will be playing the MIDNIGHT SET!
“The Original Master Of Re-Edits” Norman Jay M.B.E.
“Taught Me To Scratch” Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim)
“Greg is a cornerstone of UK dance music” Tom Findlay (Groove Armada)
Greg began DJing in 1975 and is regarded as one of the most important figures on the UK dance scene. He enjoyed hugely popular residencies in the early eighties at Wigan Pier and Manchester’s majorly influential Legend. He was a pioneer of mixing in the UK and in 1983 he became the first ‘dance music’ DJ hired for a regular weekly session at Manchester’s now legendary Hacienda club. Greg was instrumental in breaking the new electronic, post-disco records coming out of New York, a sound he has dubbed ‘Electro-Funk’.
In 2003 he set up his own website (www.electrofunkroots.co.uk) to document this crucial era in the evolution of dance culture and, having retired from DJ work at the end of 1983, Greg returned to spinning tunes two decades later, receiving plaudits for his red-hot appearances at renowned nights including Electric Chair, Horse Meat Disco and Fabric.
In 2005 Tirk released ‘Credit to the Edit’, a compilation of re-edits spanning Greg’s entire career, some even original tape edits from way back when.
Greg was the first DJ to mix live on British TV (The Tube in 1983), putting together the first UK radio mixes of their type for Piccadilly 261 in Manchester (beginning 1982) and showing a certain Norman Cook, then a young aspiring DJ called Quentin, how to scratch (Dec ‘83).
In January 2009 Greg’s reputation was further enhanced when his Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 became something of an instant classic, receiving almost universal acclaim and, in the process, providing the perfect way to commemorate the 5th anniversary of a remarkable renaissance. Credit To The Edit Volume 2 was released in November 2009.
Supporting Greg is Alexis Raphael, co-founder of Sunday party Crèche, which has become one of the leading parties in London this year, their recent ‘Big One’ party had Jamie Jones and Kerri Chandler headlining. Alexis is also set to release an EP on the hottest label around, Hot Creations, early next year.
The heated terrace will also be open all night with a very special Silent Disco…
Plain and Simple have an amazing prize to give away for this event. We’re giving away 5, yes 5, guestlist places and a bottle of bubbly to one lucky winner, meaning you can win your NYE night out for you and all your mates!

An amazing year that has seen the likes of Carl Cox, Magda, Reboot, Damian Lazarus, Art Department, Josh Wink, Nina Kravitz, Gaiser, James Holden, Audiofly, Marco Carola, Yousef, Clive Henry and many more work the decks at Shake It, ends with another unmissable night with Layo & Bushwacka! Joined by Plus 8’s Paco Osuna at Village Underground on December 3rd.
Paco Osuna, signed to Plus8, impressed Layo & Bushwacka! so much with his set at Amnesia this summer that they booked him straight off the bat to play for Shake It 2011 finale. One of the most successful producers / DJs to hail from Spain, Paco Osuna has forged a very important position within the top ranks of the European dance community as a whole, it is not easy to summarize his success, but it is possible to derive it from three common denominators: creativity, innovation and evolution. He is signed to the Cocoon DJ agency and has released EPs on Plus8 (check Crazy and Orbeat), Serial Killer and his own imprint Mindshake. You can read our interview with him HERE

It’s been four years since London’s international party throwers, Rhythmatic, began producing some of the UK’s must-visit parties. Since, they’ve had the pleasure of featuring some of the worlds finest electronic musicians including Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann with UK exclusive b2b’s, Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Luna City Express, Martinez, Lopazz, and Carl Cox during southern European tours – the list goes on. Last year Marco Carola came to celebrate their third birthday in a rare London warehouse appearance, still talked about today. Featured in Mixmag during a Marco Carola interview almost a year later, and hailed by the man himself as “One of the best parties I played at in 2011” on Resident Advisor – it’s not unrealistic to say that Rhythmatic have produced some outstanding occasions.
Having spent 2011 busying themselves putting on parties for international brands and artists including Davide Squillace and Luca Bacchetti’s Hideout, Matthias Tanzmann’s Moon harbour imprint, Grecian marvel - Cavo Paradiso and also putting on Rhythmatic only parties along the way, the team are ready with 28BLACK to close their third year and begin their fourth with yet another bang. Introducing superfine production, expertly tailored sound and quirky venue choice, Rhythmatic have been toiling & boiling with their home-made trouble to once again create something that little bit special.
The team have spent the past four years composing line-ups to perfection, and this year is no different. Bringing world favourite, Cocoon’s Onur Özer, (click here for recent interview) and the incredible duo, Livio & Roby from Desolat to the table, the promise of yet another enthralling party is once again lingering in the Rhythmatic air. The same goes for their residents who have spent the years nurturing the Rhythmatic sound and keeping the intimate sessions alive, the fourth birthday will proudly presents the Rhythmatic residents; Stathis Lazarides, Wesley Razzy and Archie Hamilton.
Double Trouble Productions in Association with 28BLACK present…

Send an email with either (a), (b) or (c) your full name and “GET DIVERTED” in the subject line to: melissa@plainandsimple.tvComp closes on Friday 28th Oct at 3pm. Winners/Runners up will be placed on a free list/concession guestlist and can collect their spoils on the night!
On Saturday 12th Nov Jaded hosts its first Night Time Warehouse Party to celebrate 7 years of this (in)famous London afterhours institution. For their special evening they have booked a plethora of talent who will make this one of THE nights of the year guaranteed. Leading the uninhibited dance towards the dawn, will be siren from The East, Nina Kraviz (Rekids, Naif, Underground Quality), Nina will be joined by Ryan Elliott (Ostgut Ton/Spectral), Konrad Black (Wagon Repair), Sascha Dive (cocoon.net), Raymundo Rodriguez, Chris Stanford, Unai Trotti & Alex Cliche plus Tred Benedict (Spilt Milk).
We were all obviously very excited by the news of this line up (obvs!), but then EVEN more so when we heard news of some special limited edition jewellery pieces which would be given away specially on the night. Jaded is known for making some immense pieces to give away to their loyal followers over the years – so we just knew we had to ker-snaffle some advance bits to give away you lot!!
We will not only be giving away pieces to 3 lucky winners, but the winners will also receive free tickets to the main event itself! *GASP* and – hang on don’t breathe out just yet… x 2 Runners up will win.. Wait for it… Jaded T-Shirts and concession entry on the night! *BLAMMO*
Jaded’s head honcho (and royal henchness) Krista tells us…
“It all started when we decided to give away soldiers stripes dog tags as our people had earned them after attending our 1st anniversary at AKA. Then it got more involved and we had to keep coming up with new designs as people were collecting them… I had no time to make them all during the week, so you could often see George making them on the dancefloor!
For the 7th anniversary we’re bringing back our most popular design but with a more 80s style Flava Flav would give his blessing to. As usual, these will be given away on the dance floor as souvenirs. Die hard Jaded people who’ve got one every time since we started making them at The End are already putting in their orders, but we’ll have 300 to give away over the course of the night. I’d better get cracking with my pliers.”
To win the Jaded jewellery, t shirt and tickets to the 7th anniversary and answer this question…. What word does the original Jaded logo spell when turned upside down?
(a) Paper (b) Raver (c) Saviour
Send an email with either (a), (b) or (c) your full name and “IWANTMYGRUBBYMITTSONTHEJADEDTINGS” in the subject line to: melissa@plainandsimple.tvComp closes on Thurs 10th Nov. Winners/Runners up will be placed on a free list/concession guestlist and can collect their spoils on the night.

After a great summer on the terrace with the likes of Greg Wilson, Radio Slave, Aeroplane, Ralph Lawson and Felix+Al Hot Chip, Slide mark their first party of the autumn months with the focus back on the club room, welcoming a very special guest make his Slide debut, the legendary DIMITRI FROM PARIS. This is a very rare opportunity to see Dimitri in such a small London space, & only his 2nd appearance in the capital this year.
As the French Ambassador of stylish club sounds, Dimitri from Paris is everything his nation could be proud of: a DJ, producer, & remixer of the highest standard, and a stylish snake-hipped pin-up with French reserve.
In 2005 the French government awarded him the very official rank of Knight of the Arts and Letters. Along with Air and Cassius he was the first artist from the Electronica field to be given such a distinction.
His musical influences are deeply rooted in 70s Funk and Disco sounds that spawned today’s House music but also original soundtracks from 50′s and 60′s cult movies. With such a large mix, Dimitri remains of one of club lands most empathic and most unpredictable DJs. Playing across genres and tempos his first goal is to share his love for music while moving your mind, body and soul.
Dimitri’s DJing career started in the late 80′s on the Parisian pirate radio scene. Moving to an official and nationwide radio he became the very first DJ to pioneer house music all over France. His mix show was first of its kind and ran over 10 years until 1998 making him a cult figure with dance music connoisseurs.
Thanks to his radio exposure where he could showcase his personal edits he turned the heads of record labels. Dimitri remixed hundreds of artists as diverse Björk, the Cardigans, James Brown, New Order and Quincy Jones. It wasn’t until 1997 however, that he became world famous with the release of his first album “Sacrebleu” on Bob Sinclar’s Yellow Productions label. A blend of diverse influences including original film soundtracks, jazzy samba and organic house. “Sacrebleu” sold several hundred thousand copies and was named one of the Ten Top Albums Of The Year by Mixmag.
In the late 90′s Dimitri followed the album’s success with several compilations including the cult “Deluxe House of Funk” and the infamous “A Night At The Playboy Mansion” (Virgin) lately charted again in Mixmag’s top 100 of best compilations ever.
A second artist album, “Cruising Attitude” was released in 2004 to be closely followed by his first outing on UK’s premier dance music label Defected: “Dimitri from Paris In the House”.
Over the course of his 30 years career our man from Paris has sold more than a million copies of his eclectic outings. Without any marketing budgets, and mostly on indie labels.
This is an incredibly rare opportunity to catch DFP in such a small space in London. Supporting Dimitri are residents Justin Winks (Casio Social Club), Henry Greenwood, Em Williams and more.
Plain and Simple have a pair of tickets to give away to this event!
To enter, tell us, what accolade did Dimtri from Paris get from the French Government?
Undoubtedly one of the best compilation series ever created, the Fabric and Fabric Live series of mixes has bought us some of the most innovative and diverse electronic DJ mixes ever released. And now they have turned to techno god Dave Clarke to deliver the goods, and deliver them he does. Anyone who has seen Dave Clarke play live will be aware of his technical prowess, his ability to deliver the crown into a high-energy frenzy, and more than anything his ability to remind us just why we all fell in love with techno in the first place.
Well now, courtesy of those lovely people at Fabric, we have 5 copies of the new Fabric 60 to give away!

It’s probably fair to say that the warehouse party is the most highly anticipated date of the year in the Nightowl calendar. A chance to step away from the norm and – for one night only – experience a night of hands in the air House grooves in a more underground and intimate setting.
This year there is an extra twist, as the party falls on Halloween weekend. Fancy dress is encouraged and anything goes – dress up in the craziest outfit you can find and prepare for a terrifying night of haunting house in the spooky Crucifix warehouse.
Dancefloor legends MYNC and one of House music’s fastest rising talents, Richard Dinsdale will be in charge of dancefloor trick or treats, topping a monstrous line-up that will include support from the ever reliable Nightowl residents – expect screaming house sets as they enchant the dance floor with their witchcraft and wizardry.

It’s been over a year since Nicky Holloway’s notorious club night Desert Island Disco had it’s last outing, but now its back at brand new South London venue Electric Brixton.
October 22nd sees Desert Island Disco, bringing together the founders of the UK house scene, Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway who will headline proceedings alongside house hero’s Brandon Block and Roy The Roach, with an exclusive classic house set from Radio 1’s Fabio thrown in for good measure.
Affectionately known as one of the Godfathers of British House music culture, Danny Rampling has made his name as a revolutionary dance music pioneer over the last 20 years. He is commonly credited for discovering the Balearic scene alongside Nicky Holloway and Paul Oakenfold, after that infamous trip to the White Isle in 1987. It’s fair to say after that both Rampling and Holloway helped unearthed the UK’s rave scene, bringing new sounds, ideas and concepts to the UK, setting the bar for years to come with their retrospective club nights back in the late 80’s. They don’t do things by half; so to say they’ll make sure this night goes off with a bang is an understatement.
In Nicky’s owns words “It’s taken me ages to find a venue that I can truly get excited about but now I have. The Electric Brixton is quite simply the Astoria on steroids with all the old majesty of a grand theatre combined with the luxury of the latest hip club.”
Whilst the main room will play host to the best of house and nu disco music new, old and everything in between courtesy of Danny Rampling, Nicky Holloway, Brandon Block, Roy The Roach and Fabio,Room 2 will showcase Brixton’s home grown talent Segs, Sir “Eddie” Reel, Simon Le and Marv Mr Clarke on a Reggae Soul & Funk tip.
Plain and Simple have a pair of tickets to give away to this event! To enter simply tell us:

It’s been a busy couple of years for London deep house imprint Ornate Music. Since its launch in 2009 label boss and vinyl junky James Thomson has carefully handpicked a choice selection of producers to release material on the label such as Fish Go Deep, Agnes, Giom, Nathan Coles, Miles Sagnia and more recently The All City Harmony Show with low slung remix from man of the moment Moodymanc. In the lead up to this Friday’s Ornate Music party with Moodymanc, Digs (DiY) and James Vorres (Sccucci Manucci), we catch up with James for a quick chat about free parties, 60′s psych folk and more importantly, deep house.
Headlining the party on Friday is Mancunian producer and DJ Moodymanc, does this mean we can expect an Ornate release form him?
Danny has a remix on the latest Ornate EP, by the All City Harmony Show and is definitely a producer who I’m in to and would like to get involved in the label some more in the future.
We’ve seen an influx of ‘deep house’ labels and parties crop up over the last few years, how do you think the party scene has changed from early 90’s free parties such as DiY and Smokescreen to more recently Secretsundaze and Fuse? Where do you see the Ornate parties come into the equation?
I think the fact that dance music culture and clubbing is now commercially and socially an integral part of everyday life, it has had a vast effect on the party scene in terms of the types of people that go clubbing, how people party, how parties are organised and what punters and promoters can or can’t get away with. I’m certainly not saying that it’s not as good as it “used to be” but I definitely it think has lost an edge as more and more people have become exposed to it and there is more and more choice. In terms of how Ornate fits in, DiY have had a big influence on the label musically, socially and ethically and I think what Giles and James have done with Secretsundaze is wicked, but with this Friday only our second party and the label still in it’s formative years I think our main focus is trying to throw a wicked do, booking producers and DJ’s who have released records on Ornate and to basically get people dancing and having fun! Maybe when we’re packing out Pascha in Ibiza or football stadiums in Rio De Janiero you can ask us again:)
Vinyl or CD?
I play both, but find I’m always magnetized back to my record box as I enjoy playing vinyl the most as I love the feel and sound of it and there are records in my box that have been in there for years which I still love to play and aren’t available on download.
As a DJ and producer where do you get your influences?
I love all sorts of different types of music from 60′s psych, folk through to rare groove and hope that this comes through in the music that myself and Johnny aka Jonno are making in some way even though it may not be instantly audible. Obviously we are heavily influenced by house music past and present, but I think that if that were our only influence there’d be a danger of making faceless, generic and disposable tracks which isn’t really in our M.O.
Top five tracks at the moment?
Most of these have been around for a while now but they are still pushing the buttons for me:
The Guys over at Ornate are also giving x2 pairs of free guestlist places away – all you need to is hop over to their RA page, click attending and they will pick an attendee’s name at random on Friday!! Blam! RA PAGE: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?294644

2011 is a milestone year for DMC, as they embrace a new wave of technology and artists. In its 27th successful year, DMC has brought together the globe’s brightest DJ talents, vetted by a series of gruelling heats from London to Tokyo to Brazil. This year, not only are DMC continuing to host one of the most entertaining and jaw dropping shows you will ever witness – but they have set the bar even higher.
For the first time, competitors can harness the full spectrum of computer based DJ programs, most notably from trend-setters and the event sponsors Serato. This is also the first year of the groundbreaking DMC Online Championships, and after months of global entries and online voting DJ Unkut from Germany was crowned the winner. Among the prizes, Unkut will receive £3000 and an all expenses paid trip to London to compete in the World Final.
While change is afoot, the most important aspect of the DMCs has of course remained true to the art. To become a DMC World Champion, DJs around the world still need to use techniques such as scratching & cutting to manipulate turntables and vinyl in order to create their own musical arrangements, performing live in front of an audience filled with both the knowledgeable DMC fans and newcomers alike.
On Thursday 6th October, over 100 DJs with battle it out on the night in two of the most exhilarating turntable events on the planet: the Battle for World Supremacy and the World Team Battle. In between the battles on the night, DMC have provided a treat for hip-hop fans and devoted turntablism followers. Following their fantastic showcase at the UK Finals, New York Turntable legends The X-Ecutioners are back to perform another smashing set. All girl beat-box crew The Boxettes are joined by Hobbit in a special show for the DMCs, and DMC Host INJA takes to the stage to perform tracks from his latest release.
Friday 7th October sees the main event, the DJ Championship World Final – where the world’s best DJs compete for the ultimate DJ accolade. Competing this year for the UK is DJ JFB, who has found success through his skills via his production prowess and dj’ing for Beardyman. The prizes are, as always, aplenty. But this year, sponsors Rane and Serato have been kind enough to donate a special prize to the World Champion: a GOLD Rane 68 Mixer worth £5000. The fight will be hard fought…=
In between the final days battles, DMC have again provided a monster line up. DMC 2010 World Champ DJ Ligone will provide a Rane and Serato showcase, fresh from his Royal Albert Hall show – DJ Switch will rock his ‘Concerto For Turntables’ in a three deck special, Nathan Flutebox Lee and The Clinic will wow audiences and DJ Tigerstyle (DMC World Supremacy Champion 2003) will also step up for an exclusive set.
With World Championship winners over the years including the superstar likes of the Scratch Perverts, A-Trak (Kanye West’s DJ), Q Bert, Craze and Mixmaster Mike (Beastie Boys), fame and respect could well accompany the bountiful prizes on offer.
Plain and Simple have a pair of tickets to give away to the final on Friday 7th October!

Phonica turns EIGHT… And Leftroom joins the party! Leftroom :: Phonica :: Heidi’s The Jackathon
… LWE presents Phonica 8th Birthday Party Saturday 1st October Great Suffolk Street Warehouse London SE1 0NR 10pm to 6am
Visionquest – Benoit & Sergio (Live) – Matt Tolfrey – Sam Russo Joy Orbison – Soul Clap – Simon Rigg – Soho – The Vangelis Heidi – Mathias Kaden – Deetron – Waifs & Strays
It was recently announced that both Phonica and Heidi’s The Jackathon were added to this event, and now Leftroom have been added, taking this party to the next level… *PHEW*
One of London’s best-loved record shops, Phonica Records celebrates its eighth birthday this October, with Leftroom, Phonica and Heidi’s The Jackathon along for the rollercoaster ride.
Renowned as a showcase for disco, house and techno, and taking music along new avenues with every release, Matt Tolfrey’s Leftroom Records is an electrifying addition to the Great Suffolk Street Warehouse lineup. Hard-working, experimental and energetic – that’s Matt Tolfrey. Joining him are Visionquest – Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss – a new generation of DJs from Detroit whose focus is on creating a unique, deep and emotive sound. US live duo Benoit & Sergio play a set showcasing their pop-tech-house sound, and deep house rising star Sam Russo completes the groove-led lineup for the Leftroom arch.
Phonica Records has a long history as a hub for electronic musicians and fans – it’s a hive of excitement and activity for vinyl lovers who come from all over the UK. Opened in 2003, Phonica Records quickly established itself within the electronic music scene. Phonica Records is a breeding ground for talent, and a meeting point for DJs produers, collectors and fans alike. Former staff include Heidi, who now has her own show on Radio 1, Hector (Mobilee & 2020 Vision), Anthea (Cecille & Mojuba), Will Saul and James Priestley (Secretsundaze) – it’s like a who’s who of dance music! And now, to celebrate its eighth anniversary, Phonica comes to Great Suffolk Street Warehouse, with a line-up that demonstrates why Phonica Records is still at the cutting edge almost a decade on – three rooms of booming bass, booty-shakin’ and throbbing beats.
The Phonica arch is a hotbed of electronic genius, with UK funky, garage and dubstep eclecticist Joy Orbison leading the charge. Having begun this year with the launch of a loud and unabashed Wolf+Lamb collaboration, hip-hop-meets-house masters Soul Clap bring the party to the Phonica arch this October. Phonica Records manager Simon Rigg joins the fold as one of the Phonica staples, and is joined by Phonica favourites Soho and The Vangelis for this birthday party to remember.
As one of the original crew, Heidi is no stranger to the Phonica Records ethos, and she’s returning to London with her night, The Jackathon with a few tricks up her sleeve. Now a Radio 1 DJ with one foot firmly in the underground house and bass scenes, Heidi will be celebrating the launch of her acclaimed Jackathon mix-CD, and is joined for this special warehouse event by Mathias Kaden – a turntablist with impeccable taste in house and techno – Deetron, whose take on Detroit techno is melodic and housey, and purveyors of pure house Waifs & Strays.
This October, Phonica Records brings together a history of electronic music from London to Detroit via Berlin, with the help of some very special guests. Come join the party…

His 1st release ‘The Moment’ was picked up by Steve Angello and immediately signed to Size, from there it’s been clear that Tim Mason is set for big things. With remixes of Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Otherside”, PNAU and Lucid – “I can’t help myself”, all set for release soon, all of which are already getting hammered by the Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Tiesto and more, he’s primed to take London by storm. You can catch him at Nightowl, Pacha, on September 17th…so as such Plain and Simple thought we’d have a quick catch up.
So then introduce yourself for those that don’t know…
Oh, hi there…I’m Tim Mason!
When did you first hear electronic music and what did you like about it?
I was always into electronic music from a young age. I started djing from the age of 13. It was when I heard the Rhythm Masters remix of Todd Terry’s Keep On Jumping, that I was inspired to get into production. In that period I was already learning the piano, so it was quite natural for me to start making my own tracks.
What have been your biggest influences and inspirations?
Influences can come from absolutely anywhere, whether it’s a current producer who I am digging, or digging through my old archives. They range from anything to DJ Sneak , Jaque La Conte , Armand Van Helden, Daft Punk and many others…too many to mention!
‘The Moment’ was a big hit for you – can you tell us a bit about the track and the thinking behind it?
I wrote ‘The Moment’ in my studio along with a few other different tracks with slightly different sound a year or so ago. I pushed a few of them out and then my manager, who I had recently taken on, he heard The Moment and said he felt it would be perfect for Size. The rest if history!!
What generally are your goals when it comes to writing music?
I don’t really have a goal in particular, I am blessed to be doing a job which I enjoy doing more than anyone could dream of, so it’s all kind of a natural progression as soon as I start work on a track, be it a remix or a Tim Mason track.
How did you hook up with Size records?
Through my Manager, I am very happy and proud to be part of the Size family and looking forward to us causing some serious damage together!
What can people expect at Pacha from you?
I would say my sound is suited to the “main room” perfectly, and naturally, Pacha has one of the best, so expect some VERY big sounds, some new remixes and you will most certainly be hearing my new track.
What’s been your proudest moment so far and why?
There’s been a lot in a very short period!!! Being contacted by the likes of David Guetta, Steve Angello, SHM, PNAU, Lucid etc for remixes is always flattering, and of course joining Size, playing with SHM….again, too many to choose from to pick just one!
Finally, who are you on the daily outside of music?
Outside of music? What’s out there? You’re scaring me now…I’m going back to the studio!
You can catch Tom at Nightowl at Pacha London 17th September 2011 – 11pm – 6am
Plain and Simple have two pairs of tickets to give away to this event! To enter simply drop an email over to jo@plainandsimple.tv and answer this question:
What label was Tim’s Summer hit ‘The Moment’ signed too?

For this our first edition of what’s to come we bring you a 1 hour deep-bumpy-techy-hair on the back of your neck raising-teaser mix from Phonica’s Soho to start the prequel
edition off (we cannot be responsible for dislocated necks from all the head nodding to this little beauty).. ENJOY!
Soho has steadily established himself within the london underground scene. born& raised in the middle east, growing up in a region not really known for its pioneering electronic sound, yet he was still able to find music that would inspire him within his parents record collection..an avid collector of music from a young age, everything from pop through to jazz, disco, rock and hip hop..as a vinyl purist it was a natural progression for soho to move on to spinning records in 1999. Since then his eclectic dj sets have been a mixture of deep, groovy, house & techno as well as everything in between!his sets are always catered for the right moments, either for a warm up set or at peak time.
Making a move to london in 2003 to go to art school and study photography, but also to submerge himself into london’sunderground nightlife and pursue his passion for music…strating out as resident of the Multi Vitamins collective, along side other established artists like; Cesar Merveille, Argy, ekkohaus, arnaud le texier&the Italoboyz, to name a few. Now you can catch soho regularly playing all over London, either as a resident for phonica records, or at east end warehouse parties, or manning the turntables at various other London venues.
Not only satisfied with dj’ing soho has also been working in the studio creating his own blend of house &techno. pressing his tracks on established labels like kailash, multi vitamins and safari electronique as well as a few digital labels. he has been lucky to see his productions charted by djs ranging from RyanCrosson to raresh&marceldettmann.
Presently soho is an employee of london’s own phonica records and continues on his musical ventures providing the dance floors with the material which makes your hips shake and your ears taste the exquisite goodness.
For 10 years, Parisian label Circus Company has served as a platform for brilliant, avant-garde beautiful, funky, funny, mindbending electronica from across the dance-music spectrum: constantly delighting and surprising with their totally unique take on house and techno. For this night they present a line-up of some of their finest talent, including a live set from musical eccentric Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, whose sound is as influenced as much by afro beat and barbershop quartets and it is by house! He’ll be joined by the consistently brilliant D’Julz, plus Seuil, Sety and Hypercolour’s Alex Jones, and Cedric Maison.
We have 2 pairs of free guestlist places to give away – to win answer the following question:
How many years has the Circus Company label been running? Is it:
(a) 100 years
(b) 5 years
(c) 10 years
Please send an email with either (a), (b) or (c) plus “Circus Company” in the subject line to: melissa@plainandsimple.tv – entries will be chosen on Thursday afternoon.

Mario Conte & Fabio Spezzaferri (Menomale Records)
(MENOMALE – a collection of labels)
Sometimes something special such as a dream or passion may be born in a room. That was the case here; it began with a group of people joined together by their need to listen to good music one Sunday morning. This quickly became a welcomed after party which developed into what was named ‘Menomale Afterhours’ in the Summer of 2006 with DJs After & Shave aka Mario Conte e Fabio Spezzaferri. These guys had been passionate about music for many years so decided to cultivate this common love for composition and production and in September 2008 ‘Menomale Afterhours’ became ‘MENOMALE RECORDS LTD’. The concept was simple; give both new comers and veterans in the music industry the possibility to be involved, first hand, with a musical project based not on notoriety of an artist but on potential and hard work. Mario and Fabio do not believe that starting from the beginning makes you a ‘nobody’ but rather a ‘somebody with enormous potential’. The first label ‘Menomale Records’ was born in November 2008 with its opening release called ‘Eletroniche Ep’ by After & Shave and was defined by the idea that minimal tech-house music is an art form. Therefore this isn’t just another minimal label but rather the creators believe that importance lies on the discovery of non-conventional paths for ‘now’ rather than adhering to an established minimalism movement. In the years that followed the two founders nurtured their passion and cultivated the fruits of their labour, in fact, ‘Menomale’ now boasts 2 labels (Menomale Records and Menomale Music), more than 80 tracks on 25 albums and more than 25 artists such as Sebastian Ese, Gery Otis, Booz (Boozandthesheep), Luca Rosa, Mario Reder, Licuadora System and Ave just to name a few. Menomale is also proud to have launched the career of some of these musicians. Now ‘Menomale’ produces an average of 2 ‘tech-house’ albums a month and is continuing to grow and transform with a new House/Deep-House project on the horizon which will continue the credo of creativity and possibility for everyone. The founders would like to thank everyone who helped make this dream come true which is why now Menomale … it’s a good thing
Friday 26th August // The Nest/ 36 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XJ // 9pm – 4am
All eyes are on Hypercolour right now. They are without doubt one of the hottest label stables coming out of London. With a heavy release schedule taking in the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Axel Boman and label head Alex Jones himself, it doesn’t look like they’ll be easing up anytime soon!
As for The Martinez Brothers, these kids need no introduction. Under the watchful eye of Dennis Ferrer, they have progressed into one of the most dominant pairings in house music today. Watch them behind the decks: they don’t stop moving. Lean, lanky, all wrists and elbows and ear-to-ear grins. They’re practically climbing over each other as records flow together, one brother cueing up a track, the other EQing, the headphones passed back and forth, forearms intertwined, heads bobbing in unison. It’s amazing to watch. Even more amazing to hear.
The Martinez Brothers play alongside Alex Jones and Cedric Maison on Friday 26th of August over at Dalston hot spot The Nest.. And guess what? We have 2 pairs of tickets to give away to you lucky people. Just send a mail over to us answering the following question, winners will be drawn at random next Thursday:

Taking over one of the capital’s freshest and most vibrant venues, Crucifix Lane, the party will showcase more Detroit talent as well as key players that have made Leftroom’s current success possible.
Visionquest’s Ryan Crosson already heads the bill, but joining him as a surprise guest will be one of house music’s most revered producers. Consistently surprising dance floors under a variety of alias, as a dark solo live act or heading up his own full band, the US born DJ/producer will bring his DJ talents to bear for this special occasion. Crosson rides in on the wave that has seen his Visionquest collective becoming the most in demand act new act in house. The Berlin based, Detroit born artist will be showing off the talents that have taken him world wide as a DJ and seen him releasing on labels such as Spectral, Minus and Supplement Facts. His Birds and Souls project with Sergio from Benoit and Sergio has also caught the ears of the tuned in heads.
In support will be Leftroom label boss Matt Tolfrey, two of Leftroom’s lead artists, Inxec and Laura Jones, and Christian Maiden of Leeds party Twaddle. With the Leftroom friends and family out in force and a great coup for the surprise guest – they cant wait to reveal his identity – this will be one of the strongest nights of house and techno in the capital this year.

Its competition crazy here at Plain and Simple at the moment, not only are we giving away a pair of tickets to SPECTRUM, and to Layo and Bushwacka, and to the amazing SIRUP NATION FESTIVAL IN CROATIA..but now we’re also offering a pair of tickets to the UK DMC final at Scala…dont say we dont look after you!
2011 is a milestone year, not just for the competition, but yet again the DMC World DJ Championship’s boundary pushing will signal change in the wider world of technology.
For the first time, competitors can harness the full spectrum of computer based DJ programs, most notably from trend-setters Serato.
2011’s UK DJ Final and Battle For UK Supremacy takes place at the Scala on Thursday 14th July with the winners going head to head with the best in the world at the World DJ Championships on October 6th and 7th at Indig02.
In a year where the production of the industry standard Technics turntables was halted for good, DMC have embraced the old and the new, the turntablism and the technology, and as well as using Serato within the battles, DMC are pushing things forward with an online DJ Championship, the launch of DMC Radio, a site re-launch, and making the World Finals available live on Pay-Per-View. With heavyweights Rane and Serato as sponsors, DMC are dedicated to moving to represent the current and future DJ.
While change is afoot, the most important aspect of the DMCs has of course remained true to the art. To become a DMC World Champion, DJs around the world still need to use techniques such as scratching & cutting to manipulate turntables and vinyl in order to create their own musical arrangements, performing live in front of an audience filled with both the knowledgeable DMC fans and lucky newcomers being initiated to this fantastic contest.
With World Championship winners over the years including the superstar likes of the Scratch Perverts, A-Trak, Q Bert, Craze and Mixmaster Mike (Beastie Boys), fame and respect could well accompany the bountiful prizes on offer (including a treasure trove of goodies provided by sponsors Rane, Serato, Novation and Sennheiser).
In between the battles on the night, DMC have provided a real treat for hip-hop fans and devoted turntablism followers. The legendary DJ crew The X-Ecutioners will fly over especially for this exclusive UK date, performing a tribute showcase to the late great legend DMC World Champion – DJ Roc Raida. Remaining members Total Eclipse, Rob Swift and Precision will without a doubt be performing something incredibly special. DMC will be donating money to Roc Raida’s family.
From the UK, critically lauded rapper Rewd Adams (formally known as Skandal) and producer The Last Skeptik will perform very exclusive tracks from their forthcoming collaborative LP ‘How Not To Make A Living’ due later this year.
Charismatic host Inja returns for another successful year of hosting duties and will be performing tracks from his brand new album Inja:Maker.
The Battle for UK Supremacy will also take place on the night, where DJs go head-to-head for a place to compete in the Champions League of the DJ world on October 6th and 7th at Indig02, a competition that will determine who goes home as the universal winner of all winners…
Plain and Simple are pleased to be offering one lucky reader a chance to win a pair of tickets to the UK finals at Scala on July 14th.
To enter simply tell us: Where will the world championship final take place in October?
Email your answer to jo@plainandsimple.tv – closing date for entries is July 8th.

An extraordinary fortress on the wonderful Adriatic coast with a delicious portion of electronic dance music…that’s SIRUP NATION
After a few flamboyant summer seasons partying the hell out of various hot spots on the Croatian Adriatic coast and testifying the upcoming festival rush, we plunge this summer with a new adventure and a new brand…SIRUP NATION, a three day festival at the monumental Punta Christo fortress near the town of Pula.
A fresh selection of electronic music acts with a spice of underground, typical for the crew from Sirup and their well known dancefloor vibe. SIRUP NATION stars the guys from Hot Chip. They’re coming back to Croatia for the second time, after their live performance at the 2008. edition of Zagreb’s In Music Festival, but this time with their praised DJ set.
British house champion Ewan Pearson also appears as one of the headliners along with NYC new superstar Levon Vincent. SIRUP NATION pushes the limits with the french DJ icon Ark, Swiss Lad and the charismatic Chilean/German producer and DJ Dandy Jack , but also with one of the best DJ’s around, Chris Duckenfield, Sirup’s greatest international friend along with Jimpster – another great buddy. Uzuri Recordings floor hosted by Tevo Howard and Jus Ed is will be preparing another exquisite groove selection…
Also we are happy to confirm Feel My Bicep floor & Austrian best club floor – Pratersauna!
Video art is taken care by Croatian masters Project Moe!
Enjoy this slice of information, because with seven stageas in three days, more music acts will be announced in the upcoming weeks… Another exclamation point about SIRUP NATION is the location where it’ll be held. Fort Punta Christo is an austro-hungarian fortress from the 19th century and a part of the world known fortification system built in Pula. It’s situated near the village of Štinjan, at the peninsula of Puntižela, at the northern entrance of the Pula bay…
Last summer the fortress hosted the popular Outlook Festival and stunned the attendants with the mixture of a mystical atmosphere, hot summer nights and eccellent music – a recipe for some great time…

For their next event on Saturday 2nd July Shake It! will be scaling down the size and going back to doing what they best and what they believe you enjoy the most – namely small intimate parties for those in the know, in very special locations.
“So who do they have along as a guest for this next party?” I hear you all ask. Well we are extremely pleased to announce that they will have none other than the fantastic Magda gracing the turntables alongside Layo & Bushwacka. The guys say that she was, in their humble opinion, the undoubted star of the show at their party last October, so they just had to invite her back for a more intimate little affair.
They will be back on Scrubs Lane in north west London, next door to where they held Bushwacka’s birthday last August. The building is almost identical in every way; outdoor courtyard for drinking, chilling and socialising, and a super cool New York style loft space for dancing and partying in until the sun comes up. The name of this new space is Studio 4 Loft Studios and it’s located at 81 – 83 Scrubs Lane, NW10 6QW… This is gonna be so super amazing!
Click here for more info on the venue as well as some travel advice and a map of the area.
Scrubs Lane is about a 10 minute walk from Willesden Junction station, and about 15 minutes from Kensal Green station. There will be a dedicated cab service after the party. The venue is sandwiched between a railway line, an industrial estate and a grave yard… so you can make plenty of noise (whilst remaining polite and well behaved at all times of course).
So…. Just to recap, Magda and Layo & Bushwacka! will be playing all night long on Saturday 2nd July at Studio 4 Loft Studios, 81 – 83 Scrubs Lane NW10 6QW. Gates open at 11pm and they will keep going until told to go home. If you haven’t got a ticket yet we highly advise you to do so, as the venue has limited capacity. £18 tickets are available…
We’ve been previewing this event for a while now, and now the guys at Spectrum HQ have released the final headliner for their summer rave up, in the form of Chase & Status!
The drum and bass heavyweights are set to take to the decks for a DJ set that will help cement this as one of the biggest and most bass heavy line ups of the summer, taking place at London’s infamous Ewer Street Car Park on July 2nd, Spectrum will be presenting 8 hours of musical treats to take you well into the early hours.
Chase & Status will be joining the already impressive line up that includes:
Nero (DJ set) Kissy Sell Out DJ Zinc Sinden RedLight Reso Hot City Tomba Pete Jordan Tim Healey Dan Neon Baratone

Primed for premium summer time partying and resplendent with red-hot housesoundtracks, Ketoloco is your friend…
Their next party is am 11hr hour terrace special at the Lightbar on Sunday May 29th with Martinez, Sasse, Nico Purman, Craig Torrance + the impeciable crew of ‘Loco ressies. We have x 2 FREE entries to give away to you lucky people!
Line-up
Martinez, Sasse, Nico Purman, Craig Torrance, KeToLoCo DJs, Chris Halliday, Olly Hillier, Eddy Osborne, Sean Cookson, Jonny Cade, Wayne Smith, Peter Glasspool
If you were there, you know: the last Ketoloco at the end of April was a sun-kissed sell-out. A capacity crowd filled the Light Bar, taking advantage of the cool outdoor terrace in the day, and the raw inside area as darkness fell. If you weren’t there, then, make sure you are for this next party on Sunday May 29th with Martinez, Sasse, Nico Purman and Craig Torrance.
Dane Martinez does tracky, irresistibly dancey sets and productions like few others. Often releasing on labels like Moon Harbour (most recently his impressive full length, The Paradigm Shift) and Area Remote, his tech house sound takes him across the globe where he weaves alluring variations on his tried and tested theme, always with great balance overall. Going deeper meanwhile, will be Moodmusic boss, Sasse. His own productions, as well as those released by the likes of Henrik Schwarz and Nick Chacona on his label, are musical efforts imbued with a reserved, melody and plenty of groove.
At the heart of the taste-making electronic stable that is Vakant, you’ll find next guest, Nico Purman. The Argentine’s warm house and techno is permeated with a mechanised disco vibe and tends to slowly entrance listeners lost in its depths. Completing the line-up are another house head, namely Darkroom Dubs, Four:Twenty and murmur aligned producer, Craig Torrance, and the impeccable crew of mischievous ‘Loco ressies.

After two storming parties and your exhilarating support Krush moves on into its third monthly installment transforming a familiar east London location into the home of your Saturday night escapades
This time round we invite some very well known artistic figures while Vincent Desforges’ home installation is destined to make you feel as comfortable as possible
Make your selves at home.
The living room hosts:
MATHEW JONSON
Probably the best one-man electronic live act in the globe.
Hailing from distant Vancouver Matthew didn’t need long to establish himself as one of the most prominent electronic artists. With best selling releases on Itiswhatitis, SubStatic. Kompakt, Minus and most recently on Wagon Repair (at a time when vinyl sales still mattered), he definitely wont leave the room unnoticed.
Decompression, Alpine Rocket, Marionette, Folding Space, Typerope, Return of the Zombie Biker are nothing but a few of his top 10 titles. He’s received numerous accolades from all dance music magazines including ‘Best producer of 2004′.
What has often set Mathew apart from other performers is his ability to improvise and perform with other players in a live group setting. This has resulted in musical formations such as the Modern Deep Left Quartet and Cobblestone Jazz, who have developed an international reputation for their intensely soulful and masterful composition that translates both in recording sessions and in live performance.
With appearances on mix albums from Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Adam Beyer, DJ Kosi, Monika Kruse and Ricardo Villalobos, and remixes for everyone from the Chemical Brothers and Moby to Nelly Furtado, Jonson has developed a large and varied following internationally.
But as such accolades continue to roll in, Mathew’s modesty continues to speak through the meditative sounds created in his studio, a testament both to his musicianship and his authentic nature.
DEETRON
Although the mountain peaks of Bern, Switzerland hold little resemblance to the industrial skylines of Midwestern America, it was among these surroundings that Sam Geiser became inspired to keep the legacy of Chicago house and Detroit techno alive. Operating under his moniker Deetron since the early nineties, he has dedicated most of his life to making and playing out dance music in its truest form. His unique production style – a melodic, housey take on Detroit techno – has captured the hearts of many around the globe. Furthermore, his immaculate mixing skills and superb choice of records have kept him internationally in demand as a respected dj for well over a decade.
Deetron should be proud of his unique style instantly recognized by music aficionados universally and an array of destined-for-the-floor productions. Predominantly a techno musician, at first he released his music on legendary labels like Primate, Intec, Phont, Ongaku and SLS.
Today find Mr Geiser balancing on the more melodic side of the groove and so he crafted star studded collaborations with Seth Torxler and Ripperton on Circus Company and Music Man respectively and landed remixes for the likes of Steve Bug, Dj Hell, Tony Lionni, Aril Brikha, Motorcitysoul and Basic Soul Unit.
A genuine talent with exceptional achievements in both the djing and producing fronts, Deetron could easily rest on his laurels and enjoy the fruit of his work, nonetheless he appears to be restless than ever and 2011 promises to be an even more exciting year in his long career. Just you wait and see!
NINA KRAVIZ
Nina Kraviz- Is a Siberian born young singer, producer and DJ. She runs Friday nights at Moscow’s famous Propaganda club.
Her first 12 inch was released on Greg Wilson’s B77 label-Myspacerocket feat. Nina Kraviz . Then followed the ” Voices Remix Project ” on Jus Ed’s Underground Quality imprint and her “First time” solo EP.
Apart from being a part of the Underground Quality family she does her house n’ disco beats for Rekids and Phillip Solmann’s aka Efdemin’s Naif label. “Pain in the ass” 12 inch released on Rekids in december 2009 was a success and brought Nina’s music to a wider range of listeners. Since then she’s been playing all around the globe including well known clubs like Panorama bar, Fabric, Fuse, Goa, Space and many more.. Her work is quite recognisible and most of the time has something personal in it’s sound. No matter what is she playing with;dirty house groove like in the latest remix of Okain’s “Scream” on Tsuba records or melancholic lyrics of “Moses’-
latest collaboration with Sascha Funke -it has that kraviz’s special sounding.
As a DJ Nina is very energetic and emotional. She plays whatever she has in her bag concentrating more on the atmosphere than on knobs and faders. You either love her or hate her- but never in the middle. You still can expect some good vibrations coming out.. house (especially acid house), techno according to her taste – which is excellent by the way)
NIKOS
Greece’s Rework’s festival hasn’t gone unnoticed in recent years, being ranked among the best festivals in the world by Resident Advisor. Remember regularirregular at Tbar? Well, this man is behind both Reworks (founding member and xCreative director) and regularirregular. London based Nikos is Krush’s resident – a man who has played alongside many of the industry’s high rollers in his time such as Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Joris Voorn and Tiefschwarz just to name a few.
GUILLE BONESSO
Born in Argentina and now living in London, Guille has from an early age been fascinated by funk, jazz, hip hop … Music is his life and playing is about bringing the best grooves to the dance floor, expressing love and creating a vibe of pure joy.
His DJing career officially started in1996, in his hometown Rosario. In 2005 he moved to London and since then has been involved in the East London underground scene, playing at venues as Plastic People, The Egg, Cargo, Public Life, The Aquarium, The Russian Bar, The Book Club, The Big Chill Bar, The Star of Bethnal Green The Horse and Groom, as well as bigger venues as The End and Ministry of Sound.
Over the years he has had the pleasure to share the decks with Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Jamie Jones, Move D, Tim Goldsworthy, Warm DJs, I:cube, The Revenge, Juan Maclean, Robert James, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Rob Mello, Pete Herbert, Friendly Fires(dj’s), Giles Smith, James Priestley, Layo & Bushwacka, to name a few.
Room 2 proudly presents an EXCLUSIVE Phonica Special Disco showcase with SIMON RIGG & THE VANGELIS
It is unarguably the best record shop globally thanks to its inimitable styling and wide range of rare tunes. The Soho hot spot has played a key role in shaping what we consider as electronic music today and the two gentlemen on its helm (Simon Rigg and The Vangelis) know better than most what is the next best thing.
With an exceptional understanding of disco music (both nu- and old-school) we ask them whether they can showcase their take on a perfect disco night out and guess what; they loved the idea. So both Simon and Vangelis are digging deep in their record libraries and preparing what you dont just see every day.
You know them and you love them both. Here’s your chance to hear them playing something special for your aural pleasure.

It’s undeniable, the prestigious label that has now achieved its first decade of existence, excellence and success is a perfect exemplar of how to do it right. Releasing records by some of the world’s paramount artists Moon Harbour by no means lacks support, consistently supplying its contemporaries and music devotees alike with the mighty tracks in their record boxes. Created by Matthias Tanzmann 10 years ago, its undoubtedly a diamond in the underground scene., with releases from the likes Vincenzo, Matthias Tanzmann, Gregor Tresher and Martinez.
With the help of Rhythmatic, the German imprint is celebrating in a way that could only be described as, well, epic. Over 24 hours in London on 24th April, Matthias Tanzmann, Luna City Express, Chris Lattner and Stathis Lazarides will be showing the city what’s what. The first 12 hourswill take place at Cargo, with Ekkohaus helping things along. Next, a secret warehouse location, held down by four of Moon Harbour’s regular artists. And to finish, Rhythmatic will take the reins, with suprise guests to keep your feet moving.
The guys at Rhythmatic have kindly given us here at Plain and Simple a great prize to give away. First prize is two sets of tickets to this unique, one-off marathon (winners will receive x 2 tickets to all 3 events – daytime party at Cargo, night time warehouse party and afterparty). Runners-up will grab concession entry to all 3 events.
To enter please send an email to: cheekyweasel@yahoo.co.uk – winners will be picked at random by Terry the office parrot.
Word on the street is the original house gangster is having a child, imminently. But that’s not stopping him from headlining a date in London that we have two places on the list for.
DJ Sneak will play his usual blend of filth in an EC1 warehouse at Junk Department, on Sunday April 24th, with Shonky, Tim Sheridan, Shane Watcha and Craig Torrence in the same building. That means you can dance safe in the knowledge that, thanks to Easter, you don’t have to say goodnight at a reasonable time, what with the Bank Holiday Monday to recover.
If you’d like to go along, with a friend, and grab a t-shirt designed by American Apparel, just like the one at the bottom of this page, then we have the usual straight forward question. Some would even say it’s not really a question. Regardless, you should send an email to martin@plainandsimple.tv by Thursday April 21st, if you can answer this simple quandary:
Everybody wants a piece of the action, so why should you get to go?
You heard us right, we’re offering 4 lucky people tickets to see the big man at The Revolution Continues Warehouse Party in Leeds, along with Carl Cox t-shirts, and if that’s not enough you’ll also get to be on hand to a meet and greet with Carl Cox himself!
Yes thats right, Carl Cox is bringing his incendiary Ibizan show to Leeds choosing the raw and industrial space of VOX -a converted warehouse on the outskirts of the city centre, to deliver his musical manifesto. Carl’s decade long weekly residency at Space Ibiza is one of the mainstays of the White Isles calendar and is consistently one of the busiest nights. Invited guests include Loco Dice, Danny Tenaglia, Fatboy Slim, John Digweed and Dubfire to play alongside along side residents Nic Fanciulli, Umek and Yousef.
You cannot mistake Carl’s excitement behind the decks, dripping with sweat his head bobs up and down as he layers track over track working any room into a frenzy. There is something amazing about witnessing the intensity of Carl Cox behind the decks that a mix CD could never capture. Carls passion is infectious and his dedication to new music relentless; It’s this combination that is at the very core of his appeal.
Fellow Revolutionary, Intec Digital label mate and Circus resident Yousef joins Carl after one of the best years of his career. He was one of the highlights of the parties in Ibiza last season, delivering set after set of blistering House and Techno. Along with a diary full of dates at the world’s best clubs, he has had a prolific year as a producer, releasing on Cocoon, Intec, Hart House, Saved and Fire Cracker plus remix work with Moby, Jamie T, Gilles Petersons’ Havana Band and Fatboy Slim.
Opening room one will be Leeds stalwart David Martin, having launched Technique and been resident for over 10 years he has made an indelible mark on the Leeds music scene. Add to that the management of Immigrant Records along the way and appearances at the like of Fabric, Sub Club, Sankeys and further afield in Europe and the US its clear that David’s knowledge is well cultivated and well respected.
In room 2 Chris Carrier headlines while Modern Amusment play host: Launched in October 2010 mA+ has quickly jostled it’s way into the already impressive landscape of Leeds club scene. With a clear desire to create a varied, music-focused experience for it’s crowd mA+ has rapidly gained respect in the city. mA+ has found a home at VOX which is suited to its no nonsense approach. With artists such as Kyle Hall, Prosumer, Tyrant, Joy Orbison, Matthias Tanzmann and Surgeon already making appearances at mA+, its clear why the event is already finding favour amongst a contingency of Leeds folk who seek a party of a different kind.
Chris Carrier will find favour with the mA+ crowd. There are two kinds of DJs: those whose goal is to make a name for themselves and those whose goal is to make music – and let the rest follow. Parisian Chris Carrier is among the latter. For more than a dozen years he’s been an underground icon, churning out more than one hundred records and remixes for a host of labels. Too busy working to chase a spot in the limelight, Carrier is nevertheless rightly revered as one of the most gifted, prolific producers on the dance scene.
A huge line up of cutting edge musical talent comes to Leeds for the first bank holiday of the year – Its time to join the Carl Cox Revolution.
‘So, how do I win this awesome prize’ I hear you cry! Well for the next week we’ll be running a competition exclusively on our facebook page. Simply pick the right answer, and we’ll select two winners who will both win a pair of tickets – although you’ll have to make your own way to Leeds.

Just last week we voiced our thoughts on the latest addition to that most celebrated mix series, DJ Kicks. Now, it gives us great pleasure to offer you the opportunity to grab yourself a copy, and take a friend to the secret launch party in London, taking place this Saturday, April 9th.
Not a bad offer really. Check out our review if you don’t believe us, but the pair of pairs face off across some 27 tracks of nu disco, broken house and electro. Which is exactly the type of thing that could fittingly soundtrack a night in the capital. Sound good so far? OK then, here are the details…
To win a free copy of Wolf + Lamb vs Soul Clap- DJ Kicks, along with two tickets to see all four play the big bash honouring said release just answer the following question. If you win, we’ll even give you directions:
There are around 60 million people living in the UK. Many of them want to go out, why should we let you?
All responses to be sent to martin@plainandsimple.tv by Friday, April 8th.
DJ Kicks Launch Party, Saturday April 9th, Secret Location, London
Fancy catching Cadenza’s Reboot and Efdemin from Dial? What about if Innervisions’ Dixon is in the second room, alongside labelmates Ame who’ll be DJing and performing live? Oh yeah, and Leeds’ finest Back to Basics will be hosting the third soundsystem.
A mighty lineup to say the least, and we didn’t even have time to mention that the Yorkshire contingency consists of Buckley, Adam Shelton (a Birmingham lad though he is), Tristan da Cunha and James Holroyd. What’s more, we’ve got the perfect opportunity for you to avoid those £20 tickets.
So, two people can get free entry to Mulletover‘s almighty Birthday Bash, and help the crew celebrate seven years of warehouse parties on April 2nd. That’s not too far away, meaning time is of the essence, so let’s cut to the chase. Nothing has changed; same format, same quandary. Blaggers, tongues at the ready here’s the question:
Why should you and an accomplice get to party until 6am, rather than us or anyone else?
All responses to martin@plainandsimple.tv by April 1st (no, seriously)
We’ve got a pair of tickets to giveaway for Carl Craig and Co’s rather massive 20 Birthday event in the capital. You may remember us telling you about this one some time ago, and thinking “oh, I’d probably quite enjoy that”. Well this is your chance.
The evening- Saturday March 5th. The venue- Ewer Street Car Park, London SE1. If getting there is no problem, and checking out the man himself, alongside Francois K, Radioslave, Paul Woolford and Psycatron sounds good, then there’s a pretty simple process that can get you and an appreciative friend in for free.
All we require is the answer to this easy question: “Why should you go, rather than us, or any other hardworking souls?” Blaggers of the world unite, this is your time to shine.
Full event details below. Competition closes March 3rd, and all responses should be sent to martin@plainandsimple.tv
