Red Gallery plays host to special ‘Tresor Berlin’ Exhibition, UK Documentary Premiere & Event..

“The walls were very thick and the energy in there multiplied. That’s why the ceiling was dripping. That’s the way it had to be.”

Tresor’s famous underground dancefloor, which hosted millions until the club’s original premises closed in 2005, saw many things. It saw the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall, when creatives flooded into East Berlin to squat, set up galleries and host clubs. It saw the explosion of techno in Europe, with the arrival of a new wave of DJs from Detroit attracted to Tresor’s aggressive aesthetic and sound system. It saw an “anything goes” door policy which helped cause clashes with the police. And it saw closure, and reinvention, in a new building..

On the 7th june London’s Red Gallery will be playing host to a special exhibition. It will include previously unseen material and treasures from Tresor’s archive, memories from the people that attended the club, film and documentaries, as well as a special screening and UK premiere of SubBerlin. SubBerlin is a new documentary by Tilmann Kunzel, and traces the club’s history from its beginning in the early ’90s to the closure of its original location in 2005. It includes interviews with many of the artists that played at Tresor, from Atkins to Sven Vath, as well as the people that made the club happen. The exhibition will also look into the impact that the club has had on the regeneration and re-branding of the new Berlin.

Following this on the 16th June will be a Live Music event that will feature Mike Huckaby, the tastemaker, educator, sound designer, and Motor City proponent who’s been a key figure in the axis between Berlin and Detroit. He’s joined by Swayzak presents S_W_Z_K live and the UK album launch from the illustrious British techno duo. Further support comes from rising French electronic music star, Marcelus.
