So here is the first of Plain and Simple’s reports live from the Big Chill festival. As the name suggests there is plenty of chill to be had. But don’t let the name fool you, there is also plenty of party to be had. With the Chemical Brothers and 2manydjs on main stage duty and Global Communications’ Tom Middleton curating his own stage, not to mention the hoards of less well known electronic music wizzards, the Big Chill is a hive of musical discovery. We’ll be updating the Plain & Simple twitter feed with highlights all weekend so follow us at @pspromouk for updates over the festival – but for now, here’s day one.

Dub in the sunshine..

The big chill by day is a haven for quality dub, reggae, disco and deep house vibes, and its during the day that you get a feel for the mix of people in attendence. Young, old and odd all merge into a happy festival melting pot. Whether its taking in the basslines coming from the funktion-1 at Mr Scruffs tea tent, or taking in some house vibes at the starburst stage, the focus is on good quality sound systems (the main stage clarity is one of the best you’ll here) and a friendly vibe.

The fact that the sun has been shining of course helps, and now as evening draws the promise of techno, breaks and even a splash of drum and bass is lurking on the cusp of a golden sunset. We’ll be bringing you reviews of the nocturnal happenings tomorrow, but thus far, Plain & Simple give the thumbs up.
