Cari Lekebusch & Joel Mull ‘Afrormosia’

Cari Lekebusch & Joel Mull / Afrormosia

Vinyl

H Productions / Released June 2011

What does it sound like?

Messrs Lekebusch and Mull, techno dons, getting a little bit angry, in the best kind of way. From the title track’s tribal edged hooks and relentless drive to Obeche, a solo offering from the first name mentioned earlier, it’s all tough, solid dancefloor fare that will never leave you alone.

Where would I dance to it?

In a dark, dark room.

What highlights can I expect to here?

As with well over half of Sweden’s output this year it’s difficult to chose the best as all four tunes are very good. Mull’s Gmelina lightens the mood somewhat without letting up for a second, merging a Sis like focus on cut and shut vocal stabs with a meaty bassline and whirring mechanical hook, which is addictive in extremis. It’s safe to say though there’s a quintet of singles here, and moments like Afrormosia explain with ease why these two men putting their heads together is a very good thing indeed. Like a steam train with rhythm.

Why should I pay for it?

Before the age of downloads getting two decent tracks on a release made it impossible not to dip into the wallet. Nothing has changed. One pressing offers two collaborative tunes, and the other boasts a pair of devastating solo cuts from the gentlemen in question. Both are great, making for a bonafide must buy.

Where can I buy it?
